“To provide dignity and love like Jesus, bringing people together to build stronger, healthier communities.”

Family Network of Wyoming is a faith-based 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to nourishment for a stronger community by providing our food pantry, durable medical equipment, and other services. We are made up of an Executive Director of Operations, an Executive Director of Development, and a hands-on Board of Directors. Our volunteers are passionate and hard-working, which allows us to help those in our community who need it the most in an extraordinary capacity.
Our goal is to foster a caring, kind, and inclusive environment to ensure that those we serve leave feeling dignified and respected.
“The need happened so suddenly and was so great…Family Network burst into existence to relieve the stress of empty cupboards and stomachs.” From 2002-2007, much of the U.S. enjoyed economic prosperity while Michigan’s economy was mired in a one-state recession. In 2007 the rest of the nation joined Michigan in economic misery during the Great Recession. New people were joining the ranks of the unemployed every day. “With all of the insecurity our region was experiencing–we couldn’t fix everything, but we could provide food, so our neighbors could have at least one dependable thing–a monthly source of healthy food for themselves and their families.” said Gary Lemke founder. On April 1, 2004, our doors opened in a 200+ sq. foot strip-mall shop. We fed 10 families that first month. The first year we served 130,000 lbs. of food to 1,400 households. In 2019, we fed more than 11,000 individuals. Since our first year, we have grown and expanded our services to offer non-food programs and services such as: our durable medical equipment loan closet and annual Wyoming Christmas Store. Nourishing others is what we have done since 2004. The need continues, as does our story.
Our volunteers are the heart that sustains the body of our entire organization. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to help in the immense scope that we do. We have 40 volunteers that work a total of 1,400 hours per month. Our volunteers provide us a lower operating cost to use our money where it matters most — helping our community. If you have a heart to serve and would like to join our volunteer core, please reach out.
The recent outcry in response to persistent racial injustices nationally, and within our own communities, has shown us there is more work to be done to eradicate racism in America, in Michigan, and in our own organization.
We want to live in a country where “justice for all” is a reality. To make this happen, we must listen to those experiencing injustice, choose to create lasting change, and embrace a culture of true inclusion. This means valuing diversity and standing against racism and inequality at all levels every single day.
At Family Network of Wyoming, we are committed to:
- Oppose racism – realized or unrealized – and refuse to tolerate it in any form
- Stand with those marginalized by racism as they demand justice
- Look at our practices to identify areas we can improve
- Learn from criticism and mistakes, and continue to educate ourselves
- Escalate our work to advance diversity, inclusion, equity, and access throughout our organization
We pledge to change what needs to change, and to choose justice every day.
We know that in order to end hunger in our communities, we must all work together. We value the diverse voices we serve and work alongside as we live out our mission.
Expect a progress update in the coming months.
